Alpha Female Fridays - Ofentse Pitse

This week we meet the first black South African woman to own and conduct an all-black orchestra, Ofentse Pitse. She studied architecture as a way to combine her love of the arts with numbers but never let go of her love of music.

She eventually found her way back to music and in 2017, Ofentse started a youth choir for which she handpicked young people that were classically trained from Soweto, Katlehong, Tembisa and Pretoria. She was then inspired to seek sponsorship and funding to help the children further their education.Over time as she gained more experience in the classical music world she realized that there was no all-black orchestra and so she decided to start her own.

She approached established classical musicians in various orchestras to boost the ensemble, which gradually grew from 8 to 19 to 40-piece symphony orchestra called the ‘Anchored Sounds’. She recently orchestrated "If I ain't got you" at Queen Charlotte's Global Orchestra on Netflix alongside Alicia Keys. Ofentse Pitse to the world we would like to give her a shout out on her inspiring music journey!!💥💥
