Alpha Female Fridays - Ndoni Mcunu

When talking about trailblazers in science particularly in Africa the name Ndoni Mcunu is at the forefront. Ndoni is a passionate climate scientist, social entrepreneur & public orator.

She is also the Founder/CEO of Black Women in Science South Africa, an organisation that looks to provide Black Women scientists from final year to Postdoctoral level with skills and capacity. She founded the organisation because of the social challenge with women academics in academic and research institutions.

The organisation runs fellowship workshops which focus on scientific writing, business and entrepreneurship and science communication. She currently works as part of the secretariat development team at South South North for the Adaptation Research Alliance (ARA) supported by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). She’s currently pursuing her PhD in climate change and agriculture at the Global Change Institute at Witwatersrand University. Her research focuses on climate change, food systems and policy.

Her focus is analysing how to make farmers more resilient to the impacts of climate change. She has been listed as the top 50 most inspiring women in tech in 2017 by the Netherlands Embassy. She has been recognised as one of the 40 under 40 African Leaders for Climate Resilience in 2019 by Wilton Park which is an executive agency of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

She has also served as a panellist and keynote speaker for organisations such as the United Nations Women, United States Embassy, Embassy of Ireland and the European Union. She has been a TEDx speaker with the most recent one titled: Africa, do we know our next leader?

She embarks on a discussion emphasizing the importance to tailor-make solutions for Africa by Africans. You might have also seen her on TV as part of the "She Owns Her Success" campaign for momentum…Her bio will not fit as a caption, she's the perfect example of when passion meets purpose.

She's our Alpha Female today as a reminder to find what you are really passionate about, and aggressively pursue it. We are what the world needs ❤️❤️#WomenInScience#Researcher#Scientist#PhD#Beast#AlphaFemaleFridays
